Wondering how to make your room look expensive? Sometimes, all it takes is a few simple changes to elevate your space and make it appear more luxurious, and it doesn’t always have to cost as much as it looks like it does.

Below, we’re sharing eight of our favorite tips for how to make your bedroom look expensive, with easy things that you can do right now to create a space that looks modern and high-end.

8 Luxury Bedroom Design Ideas

When it comes to how to make your room look modern and expensive, you have to think of the big picture. Luxury is achieved by bringing in a variety of things that connote high-end design, rather than just one or two costly pieces. So while little things can certainly make a big impact, it’s about how everything comes together that really determines whether a bedroom looks luxurious or not.

As you make a design plan, incorporate some or all of these luxury bedroom tips and 2022 design trends to get the look that you’re going for.

1. Start with a Vision Board

Look at luxury bedrooms on social media and in magazines for inspiration, and create a vision board of spaces that you want to try and emulate. Keep an eye out for details like color palettes, lines, shapes, and materials to figure out what speaks to you and what tells you that a space is (or at least appears to be) expensive.

2. Invest in Good Bedding

Here in Miami, you’re likely not snuggling up under piles of blankets every night—but that doesn’t mean your bedding isn’t still an important part of your bedroom. Quality is key here, so go with crisp, clean linens in neutral colors, and spend a bit more to create a bed that you look forward to getting into each night.

3. Hang Curtains

Curtains add an extra touch of elegance to your space. Hang the curtain rod high on the wall to create the illusion of more height, and choose the right curtain length so that the bottom of your panels brush against the floor.

4. Layer Your Lighting

A harsh overhead light isn’t ideal in a bedroom. Instead, you want to layer in accent and mood lighting for more serenity, making good use of lamps and sconces and adding in a dimmer switch so that you can tone down any ambient fixtures.

5. Display Plants and Flowers

Fresh flowers and well-tended plants add a lushness to your space. For Miami vibes, tropical flowers and leafy green palms are a good way to go, but more traditional blooms like dahlias, peonies, and orchids are always in style too.

6. Add Molding

Adding molding to your ceilings is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make for a luxurious bedroom. Choose molding with clean lines for a modern aesthetic, or opt for a traditional look with molding that’s more ornate and decorative.

7. Paint Your Walls a Neutral Color

White is often the wall color of choice for luxury spaces, and can instantly brighten up and elevate your bedroom. Choose a warm white to keep things cozy. And if you’d prefer a touch of color, look to other warm neutrals like sage or beige, which offer just a pop of color without being too garish.

8. Take Care of Clutter

Clutter is a killer of luxury, so it’s essential that you have ample storage available in your room. If you’re short on space, get creative with underbed storage or by making more use of the vertical space in your closet. You can also use a small dresser in place of a standard nightstand for more drawer space and more surface space next to your bed.
